Ok, first off...
Hello, my name is Dan and I am a Carraraphile.
I got hooked on Carrara 5 and I've been a user ever since.
I am not a professional CG anything... I
am a professional heavy metal/hard rock guitarist who animates as a hobby (and a way to stay out of trouble!) and I know that next to some people, my work is sort of ....well, you know.

I have Max and Lightwave (and they're great apps) but there is something that they are both missing that I find in Carrara.
Carrara, unlike every other animation studio I've used works like a film set.
When I animate in Max or Lw I feel like I'm using an animation suite.
When I animate in Carrara I feel like a director on a film set.
That, to me, is a big deal and why I love Carrara even though the other apps are 'more powerful'.
As an artist, I feel the tools should work around my talents (if I have any) and I should not have to work my talents around the tools. Carrara is the app that does this for me.
I can be found on various SciFI CG forums (more often than not I'm the only Carrara guy there and I tend to be the 'go to guy' for questions about Daz/Poser stuff) but I just discovered this forum today while I was looking for some new texture brushes for Carrara.
I looked around this forum and it seems like a good place for me to learn from others and maybe even share some of my techniques with the Carrara community.
So, there's that.

Secondly (whew, bet ya didn't think I'd ever get to this part, did ya?!)

Here are a few animations I've done with Carrara 7 Pro.
I have some animated short films that are coming down the production pipeline and each of them features Carrara as the primary animation suite.
So, I hope you like what I'm doing and if you have any feedback (be it positive or negative - but valid) I am more than willing to hear it and learn from it.
Like many of you, I just want to be better at what I do when I do it.
So here are a few of my animated bits and a brief explanation.
"Zilla Wars" is the evolution of a story I began working on a while back. After spending around six months working on animations for the story 'GinoZilla -vs- NeoGhidorah', things hit the wall on that project and I deleted most of my 20GB worth of work files. But one day while 'cleaning house' I came across the animations I had created and saved from it and I realized that I did some pretty good work on it and so I reworked the script to bring it more in line with a story I wrote back in 2,000 titled 'Gojira: Lord of Terror'. The original version (GLoT) featured a Scott Ayers GFW mesh however the retooled version uses his GinoZilla and Delgadosarus models.
If all goes well, this animated short will be released in about 3 months.

Here is the original opening credits and to 'GinoZilla -vs- NeoGhidorah' and a few minutes of the film. (I have 15 minutes in the can as I write this)
This is my old 'Rampage of GinoZilla' animation that started the ball rolling on 'Zilla Wars'.

And because I'm not a 'One Trick Pony' here is a shot from an upcoming Star Trek fan film I'm working on with mega-modeler Gerard 'Taranis' Duffy. It's an all original story that takes place in the Trek universe on a ship that is not the Enterprise with a crew that is not Kirk and co.
This clip was just a little test I did and I know I could have rendered to the alpha channel but when I do that, I get sketchy results at times. As it turns out, my nacells created an ugly thing anyway.
"Star Trek: The Armageddon Clock" will be (if we're able to stay on schedule) released around December of 2010.

This is from an animated short film I'm also doing (yah, I'm a busy little bugger!) by the name of 'Dark World.' In this film an artifact is found on Mars (no, not like in Total Recall) that turns out to be the essence of Evil. Guess what happens when it's brought back to Earth. Yah, it's bad.
The animated short film (about 60 min) will feature songs by some of my buds. Each song tells part of the story as it unfolds.
"
So!
There ya go!
